COSTA MESA — Emulex Corp., a computer parts manufacturer, has changed the name of its circuit board subsidiary to Q Logic Corp. as the first step in its plan to spin off the unit as a separate, publicly held company.
The subsidiary, previously known as Emulex Micro Devices, started Tuesday to brand the computer circuits it makes with the new Q Logic logo. Company officials said that the name change does not affect any products or services and that the unit will continue to support products previously made under the Emulex logo.
Emulex officials have said they are evaluating a reorganization that would create two publicly held companies, Q Logic and Emulex Network Systems, which would continue the company’s design and production of computer controllers--the electronic chips that direct the flow of information in a computer.
