Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 30-year-old man Monday night after he allegedly tried to snatch a woman’s purse outside a grocery store in Camarillo.
Charles Watkins of Camarillo was being held without bail in County Jail on suspicion of attempted robbery and violating his state parole.
Watkins is accused of trying to snatch a purse from Donna Muth, 32, as she loaded groceries into her car in the parking lot of Vons grocery store at 381 Arneill Road about 9:25 p.m.
Muth told police a man approached her, told her he was going to rob her and demanded her purse. Muth then ran away and reported the incident to police. A witness saw the suspect drive out of the Vons parking lot with his car lights dimmed, Sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Lazz said.
About 10 minutes later, deputies spotted a car matching the description of Watkins’ in the parking lot of Hughes Market at 674 Las Posas Road in Camarillo. Muth then identified Watkins as the suspect and he was arrested, deputies said.
