Laguna Hills and Irvine are scheduled to decide the Southern Section Division III softball championship tonight at Lakewood’s Mayfair Park.
Second-seeded Irvine (26-5), co-champion of the Sea View League, won the title in 1991. The Vaqueros have won 16 of their last 17 games.
Unseeded Laguna Hills (23-5) last won a title in 1987. This is the first year they have won a playoff game since they appeared in the 1988 championship game, and the Hawks’ winning streak is at 14 games.
The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. It will be preceded by the Division V championship game between Murietta Valley (21-3) and third-seeded Santa Monica Crossroads (25-6), which begins at 5:30 p.m.
