Interactive Sculpture Visits Santa Monica

Edward Beller’s public sculpture, “The Observed Subject Observing the Subject Observing,” is on view at the Santa Monica Place shopping mall through Aug. 31.
The 8 1/2-by-5-by-4-foot sculpture, a multimedia, interactive closed-circuit audio and video system, is on a temporary loan from the Cermak Plaza in Berwyn, Ill.
The work, which features a video camera, microphone and a 60-inch rear projection video monitor, displaces and alters the viewer’s perception, using time delays, spatial techniques and other methods.
