A 19-year-old Cypress man was killed Sunday night when he lost control of his motorcycle on Artesia Boulevard in Fullerton and hit a telephone pole guy wire, police said.
Phillip McCarthy was riding his motorcycle at 80-plus m.p.h. westbound in the 4200 block of Artesia Boulevard between Dale and Gilbert streets at 11:25 p.m. when he veered to the right for an unknown reason, clipped the pole and then hit the wire, said Officer Brad Daniel.
McCarthy managed to keep his balance after hitting the pole, but the impact with the wire knocked him off the motorcycle, which continued until it hit a fire hydrant, Daniel said.
