NEWPORT BEACH : Paramedics Plan Taking Subscribers
- Share via
In response to a new tax for those who use paramedics, the Newport Beach Fire Department has announced a special subscription program.
The tax, which took effect Thursday, means that residents who require paramedics will be charged up to $250 for each visit. But under the new Fire Medics Program, each household and businesses with up to 10 employees pay $42 annually regardless of the number of times the paramedics are summoned. For businesses with more than 10 employees, the subscription rate goes up incrementally.
Those who wish to subscribe have the choice of paying the full amount or $7 installments six times a year.
The fee combination was approved by the City Council earlier this year to raise $800,000 to help the city close a multimillion-dollar budget shortfall.
Applications for the program will be included in utility bills next month. For more information, call the Newport Beach Fire Department at (714) 644-3103.
