Arcadia : Water Bills Increase 5%
Water bills are going up 5% starting this month.
Water Manager Eldon Davidson said the city’s rates are still the lowest in the west San Gabriel Valley. The City Council unanimously approved the increase Tuesday.
Every other month, the city’s 13,000 water customers will have to pay an additional $1 in the base rate and an extra 10 cents per 100 cubic feet of water used. Officials say that works out to an extra $2.76 every two months for the average customer. Customers now pay $5 for base service and 72 cents per 100 cubic feet of water used.
Among the largest consumers of water are Santa Anita Race Track, the Arboretum and local schools, officials say.
The increase was needed because the cost of purchasing and pumping water has gone up, and the city needs to upgrade its water system, Davidson said.
