VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — The Air Force launched a Peacekeeper missile Tuesday evening, sending it to a target in the Marshall Islands and creating a spectacular light show on the California Coast.
The missile was launched at 8:18 p.m. on its way to a target in the Kwajalein Missile Range 4,800 miles away.
The launch created a luminous blue-white pattern in the orange evening sky that was seen to the east as far as Glendora near the San Gabriel Mountains and to the south as far as San Diego.
