Brush Fire Blamed on Target-Shooters

Two youths who were target-shooting accidentally ignited a 350-acre brush fire near Castaic Lake on Saturday that took firefighters nearly three hours to control, authorities said.
The blaze did not cause any injuries or burn any structures.
The fire broke out about 10:30 a.m. just east of the Golden State Freeway when one of the rounds fired by the youths hit a power line, igniting dry brush and grass, Sheriff’s Deputy Dave Lingscheit said.
The juveniles were questioned but not charged, Lingscheit said.
About 150 county firefighters and prison inmates fought the blaze and used a water-dropping helicopter before they extinguished the fire shortly after 1 p.m., county fire dispatcher Charlotte Kramer said.
