NORTH RANDALL, Ohio — A second group of parimutuel clerks who punched betting tickets during and after a simulcast race at Thistledown has been suspended.
The track suspended six clerks on Tuesday for two months each for issuing tickets during and after the July 2 race simulcast from River Downs in Cincinnati. Thistledown betting machines failed to lock when the race began.
Five clerks were suspended on Monday for two months each.
Ed Lynch, secretary-treasurer of the Service Employees International, which represents the clerks, said the suspensions would be appealed.
Thistledown officials said 42 mutuel clerks bet nearly $7,000 during and after the race. The disciplinary hearings resume Friday.
