A Metropolitan Transit Authority police officer fatally shot a carjacking suspect who waved a pistol at the officers when they approached him at an intersection near the City of Industry on Thursday night, authorities said.
“The officers ordered him to put his pistol down . . . but he kept pointing it at them and the officer fired one shot,” said MTA spokesman Jim Smart.
The suspect, a 27-year-old La Puente man who was not identified, died an hour later in County-USC Medical Center, Smart said.
Sheriff’s Deputy Rich Erickson said the transit unit was hailed by witnesses, who had seen two men unsuccessfully try to carjack two motorists near Basetdale Avenue and Valley Boulevard.
