Philip Yung Lee; Presbyterian Minister, Church Music Expert

Philip Yung Lee, 84, veteran Presbyterian minister and expert on church music. Born in Canton, China, Lee came to the United States in 1933 to study religious music at Northwestern University. He returned to China in 1939 and broadcast regularly for the China Christian Broadcasting Assn. in Shanghai. He told American audiences during fund-raising lectures that the Christian music and sermons he broadcast would fuel China’s victory over the invading Japanese. Later, Lee held pastorates in Hawaii and in Los Angeles, where he retired from the True Light Presbyterian Church in 1976. During his retirement, he was a frequent guest speaker at the San Marino Community Presbyterian Church. On Thursday in Pasadena.
