Senior Care at Hoag Hospital: Acquiring Medicare contracts for senior care has been all the rage among HMOs for the last several years.
CareAmerica, the Chatsworth-based HMO, said it has inked a deal with Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach to provide Orange County seniors with full-service plans.
The CareAmerica 65 Plus plan, like other so-called senior plans, offers Medicare recipients the basic coverage approved by the government, but adds benefits such as prescription services, eye care and preventive programs at no extra cost.
FHP Inc. of Fountain Valley and PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. of Cypress also offer highly successful senior plans, with thousands of members each.
Hoag is the 33rd Southern California hospital to join the CareAmerica senior plan. Other Orange County hospitals involved are Brea Community Hospital, Coastal Communities Hospital in Santa Ana, La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim, Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo and Friendly Hills Regional Medical Center in La Habra.
