BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Piazza Approaching Another Milestone
- Share via
One of the more remarkable records within Mike Piazza’s reach is the Los Angeles Dodger season home run record. The record, 33, was set by Steve Garvey in 1977 and tied by Pedro Guerrero in 1985.
Piazza is in the company of five other National League players who have hit 30 home runs in their rookie seasons: Frank Robinson, 38 in 1956; Wally Berger, 38 in 1930; Earl Williams, 33 in 1971; Jim Hart, 31 in 1964 , and Willie Montanez, 30 in 1971.
“Guys like him are like bald eagles,” Dodger Manager Tom Lasorda said of Piazza. “They’re almost extinct.”
