As part of an ongoing effort to draw more tourists to Ventura, the City Council has adopted a plan that calls for increasing marketing efforts and working with more tourism-related agencies.
The Tourism Workplan calls for better coordination among the Ventura Visitors & Convention Bureau, the Harbor Merchants Assn., the downtown merchants and other groups to develop special events and cultural activities.
Goals include establishing a trolley, walking tours and cultural events to lure visitors.
In a related measure, the council this week approved $325,100 for three tourist-related agencies.
The Ventura Visitors & Convention Bureau received $268,350 for the rest of the 1993-94 fiscal year. The Ventura County Museum of History and Art received $32,750. The Ventura Arts Council received $24,000.
City officials estimate that last year tourists spent about $127.2 million in Ventura.
