Montebello officials have approved a $6.7-million plan to redesign the community’s only golf course.
The City Council unanimously voted Tuesday night to allow parks and recreation officials to hire an architect and issue bonds to finance renovation of the 18-hole Montebello Municipal Golf Course.
Construction on the 119-acre course off Garfield Avenue near the Pomona Freeway is not expected to begin until 1995.
The work will include landscaping the greens and installing a traffic light, a new drainage system and a fence to protect motorists from errant golf balls, said parks and recreation director Steve Blancarte.
The golf course has not been revamped since it was built in the 1920s, Blancarte said.
