George Bell, a designated hitter who didn’t get an at-bat in the American League playoffs, was put on waivers by the Chicago White Sox for the purpose of giving him his release. . . . The Kansas City Royals will replace the artificial turf they have played on since 1973 with natural grass at the start of the 1995 season.
