Canyon Hires Coach for Girls’ Basketball

ANAHEIM — Nelson Herrera has been hired as Canyon High School girls’ basketball coach, girls’ Athletic Director Harper Ephrom said Wednesday.

Herrera replaces Bill Fitzgibbons, who resigned in March to spend more time with his family. Fitzgibbons led Canyon to four consecutive second-place finishes in the Century League. Last year, the Comanches were 14-9, losing to Edison in the first round of the Southern Section Division II-AA playoffs.

Herrera was varsity coach at Artesia from 1989-92.
