Governor Calls for Diesel Price Review: As farmers, truckers and others asked the state to suspend new diesel fuel regulations due to a sharp price run-up, Gov. Pete Wilson named a task force to review the controversy. Shortages developed and prices leaped as much as 40 cents a gallon when a new California rule requiring cleaner diesel fuel took effect on Oct. 1. Wilson asked seven state agencies to study the matter, not including the California Air Resources Board, which wrote the rule. Meanwhile, the CARB was told at a hearing that the shortage is easing and prices are heading down.
