COSTA MESA — Abbey Home Healthcare, a subsidiary of Abbey Healthcare Group Inc., said Tuesday that it bought a respiratory therapy firm in Mississippi in its continuing effort to expand through corporate takeovers.
The company said in a prepared release that its purchase of Mississippi Medical Products Inc. of Jackson, Miss., brings the number of Abbey employees in the area to 32. Abbey now has 2,400 employees around the nation. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
“The addition of Mississippi Medical enables Abbey to increase its market share and broaden our customer base,” said Michael C. Miller, chief operating officer.
Abbey, which provides home respiratory services, including the rental of medical, clinical and rehabilitation equipment to in-home patients, unsuccessfully tried to acquire Boston-based Lifetime Corp. Since then it said that it would grow through smaller takeovers.
The company continues to look for a home-nursing firm to buy to reach its goal of being a “one-stop shopping service” in the home-care market, said Abbey spokeswoman Susan Turkell.
