Volleyball / Outside hitter
Torromeo came to Golden West with an impressive background. She was selected most valuable player of the State Division I high school playoffs in 1991 for Lakewood St. Joseph, which won the title. She accepted a scholarship to Pepperdine and played a limited role for the Waves last fall. She then transferred to Golden West. She had 14 kills and 10 blocks as Golden West beat Cerritos, 15-7, 15-3, 9-15, 8-15, 15-9, to win the Santa Barbara tournament Sunday. She had 11 kills as Golden West beat the Falcons earlier Sunday, 13-15, 15-10, 9-15, 15-11, 15-5.
Other notables:
* Kathy Farina of Rancho Santiago had 56 assists as the Dons won two Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball matches.
* Yumi Yamazaki of Saddleback had 35 kills in two Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball matches, both won by the Gauchos.
