Corona del Mar, Sr.
Volleyball / Outside hitter
Corona del Mar seems to be jelling after defeating Poway, ranked No. 1 in the state, to win the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions Saturday, and Stroffe is playing a big part. She was named the MVP of the tournament after 21 kills in the title match and 14 in the semifinal victory over Long Beach Millikan. “She dug a ton of balls for us,” Coach Lance Stewart said. “She hustled all over the court. She served well and passed well and just had an all-around good tournament.” The next big match: the rematch Thursday with Newport Harbor.
Other notables:
* Carrie Garritson, Buena Park, won the Mt. San Antonio Invitational individual sweepstakes race, finishing three miles in 18:25.
* Eleanor Luzano, Rosary, swept her singles sets in Sunset League tennis victories over Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach.
* Elizabeth Stevens, Dana Hills, won three sets in a 14-4 tennis victory over San Clemente and two of three in a 11-7 victory over Mater Dei.
* Jeanne Vetter, Dana Hills, had 25 kills in a three-game volleyball victory over Mater Dei and 13 kills in a three-game victory over San Clemente.
