FACES OF THE FIRE : Coast Highway Is Reopened to Laguna Residents
- Share via
Coast Highway was reopened Thursday afternoon, but only for Laguna Beach residents returning to their homes.
California Highway Patrol officers opened the road about 2 p.m. to residents with special permits from a CHP blockade at Crown Valley Parkway and Coast Highway.
There was no estimate late Thursday of when the road would be opened to normal traffic.
The highway had been closed from Crown Valley Parkway to the Newport Beach city limits since 12:10 p.m. Wednesday.
Two other major roads remained closed in both directions: Laguna Canyon Road from Coast Highway to the Santa Ana Freeway, and Ortega Highway from Interstate 5 to Grand Avenue in the city of Elsinore.
