Borsari Is Key to Sunny Hills’ Victory Over La Habra

BUENA PARK — Don’t try to figure out the Freeway League race.

“I like it much better (now),” Sunny Hills Coach Tim Devaney said.

And so he should.

Devaney watched his team dominate La Habra, 42-9, Friday night at Buena Park High.

“It’s (league title race) wide open,” Devaney said. “The one who screws up the least will win.”

And for the game, that was Sunny Hills (4-4, 2-1).

It’s nice, though, to have a player the caliber of Craig Borsari.

Borsari caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Brad Knyal, rushed for 53 yards in five carries, caught four passes for 36 yards, intercepted a pass, and returned a fumble 34 yards for a score.

“Borsari had a heck of a game,” Devaney said.

So did Sunny Hills sophomore running backs Robert Oliver and Chris Velotta.

“The two sophomores did a great job,” Devaney said.

Especially Oliver.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound running back powered his way to three touchdowns, two on one-yard runs and the other from two yards. He rushed for 89 yards in 19 carries.

The two are filling in for injured Henry Naliielua, who has a strained knee.

“The doctor said we would be pushing it if we try to get him back tonight (Friday),” Devaney said.

It was La Habra (4-4, 2-1) that needed attention.

The only bright spot for the Highlanders was when Eric Mark returned an interception 74 yards for a score.

Juan Garcia led La Habra in rushing with 50 yards in 14 carries.

Sunny Hills’ Bryce Pippert had two interceptions.
