PREP ROUNDUP : Capistrano Valley’s Wichmann Leads Way in Wild-Card Victory

Stef Wichmann had 13 kills to lead Capistrano Valley to a four-game victory over Santa Margarita in a Southern Section Division I wild-card playoff match Tuesday at Capistrano Valley.
Rachel Simpson had 11 kills for the Cougars (11-6), who won, 15-5, 5-15, 19-17, 15-8.
Lesley Nolan had 10 kills and Katie Keane and Kelley Moohre each had nine for the Eagles (10-7). The Cougars will play Laguna Beach in the first round Thursday.
In other Division I wild-card matches:
Corona del Mar 3, Mater Dei 0--Jennifer Stroffe had 14 kills and Kim Coleman had 13 for the host Sea Kings (19-2), who won, 15-0, 15-2, 15-8. Corona del Mar advances to play Long Beach St. Anthony in the first round.
Los Angeles Marlborough 3, Laguna Hills 0--Amy Steele recorded 15 kills for Laguna Hills (10-6). Emily Boken recorded 11 kills for Marlborough (12-5), which won, 15-9, 15-3, 15-3, and advanced to play Dana Hills.
In Division III:
La Quinta 3, Riverside J.W. North 0--Jennifer Chapman had five kills, four blocks and four aces and Jennifer Holcomb had eight kills to lead La Quinta to a 15-13, 15-10, 15-5, victory in the wild-card round. La Quinta’s reward for the victory is a trip to face top-seeded Torrance Thursday.
In Division IV:
Western 3, Rosemead 0--Amy Sheets had seven kills for Western (9-8) in a 15-4, 15-3, 15-6, sweep of Rosemead (8-9). The Pioneers advance to play No. 2-seeded Nordoff.
In Division III girls’ tennis:
Sonora 10, Long Beach Jordan 8--Sonora advances to play at Paramount in the first round Thursday.
In Division IV girls’ tennis:
Los Amigos 9, Brea-Olinda 9 (Los Amigos advances on games, 81-77)--Los Amigos advances to play at Whittier La Serna in the first round.
