OUTLOOK
Lloyd returns for his 14th season at Brea-Olinda after a seven-year hiatus. “When I left (after the 1986 season), I just felt it was time to take some time off to be with my family and things like that,” Lloyd said. “There was no real intention of returning.” But when Phil Henderson resigned late in the summer, Lloyd decided to come back. “The opportunity was there, my kids are grown, so here I am,” he said. After accepting the job only two weeks before the school year started, Lloyd finds himself in the unusual situation of not knowing his team, or the rest of the league, very well. “It’s tremendously strange for me to be this far behind in terms of preparation,” Lloyd said. While Lloyd’s comments may lead those who don’t know the veteran coach to assume the Wildcats will struggle this year, those who do know him need only to point to his impressive record at Brea to know that he will make an impact on the league.
