Golden West, So.
Water polo / goalie
Marland was well aware of the success of the Golden West water polo program before joining the Rustlers this season. He had seen it first-hand in 1991 from the net for Long Beach, which was third in the state that season behind Golden West. The Rustlers won the third of what became five consecutive championships that season. Marland had 26 saves in three State-tournament games. He made 11 in 14-12 victory over Grossmont in the title game, including three in the final two minutes to help preserve the victory.
* Matt Kordik of Rancho Santiago scored 28 points Saturday as the Dons beat Glendale, 95-82, in the championship of their Tip-Off tournament.
* Darin Rabb of Orange Coast finished seventh at the state cross-country Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.
