Los Angeles police are seeking the mother of a newborn girl who was found Saturday in a trash dumpster in Watts with her umbilical cord still attached.
A man searching the dumpster for cans and bottles found the girl about 10 a.m. at 115th and Success streets, inside the Nickerson Gardens housing projects, said Lt. Ed Wilson of the LAPD’s Southeast station. The girl was found wrapped in a white towel and white sheet.
“She was somewhere between 2 and 3 hours old, according to emergency room physicians,” Wilson said. “The child is a light-skinned black child. That’s the only thing we have to work on so far.”
