Weekend Box Office : Sequels Take 2 of Top 3 Spots

It was an excellent weekend for “Wayne’s World 2,” but the disappointing performance of the other new sequel, “Sister Act 2,” suggests that moviegoers may not be making a habit out of Whoopi Goldberg as a singing nun. The epic “Geronimo: An American Legend” seems likely to beat a swift retreat after a poor opening. Despite the second-place showing of “Mrs. Doubtfire,” Hollywood is still waiting for a blockbuster like last year’s “Home Alone II” to put more zip into what is turning into a sluggish holiday season.
