VAN NUYS : Erik Menendez Jurors Asks to Have Transcripts Read

Sifting through five months of evidence, Erik Menendez’s jurors asked Wednesday to have 10 excerpts of testimony read back to them.
Among the portions read aloud in court Wednesday was testimony from a boat captain who took the Menendez family shark fishing the night before Erik and Lyle Menendez killed their parents.
More of the excerpts are scheduled to be read back today, including testimony from a high school friend of Erik Menendez, Craig Cignarelli, who said that the younger Menendez brother confessed to him before he was arrested.
As is normal with juror requests to hear testimony, the panel did not indicate why it was interested in the various excerpts. While that jury was wrapping up a fifth day of deliberations, Lyle Menendez’s jury finished an eighth day of deliberations on a different floor of the Van Nuys courthouse.
Two juries are hearing the case because some evidence in the trial was admissible against only one brother.
Lyle Menendez, 25, and Erik Menendez, 23, are charged with murder in the Aug. 20, 1989, shotgun slayings of their parents, Jose Menendez, 45, a wealthy entertainment executive, and Kitty Menendez, 47.
