Patent Law Revisions OKd: The Legislature approved the changes, completing a package of improvements in the protection of intellectual property sought by Washington. Revisions in the law allow for better protection of patents in the food, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, extended patent terms and steeper fines for patent violators, said Robin Winkler, a U.S. patent attorney. The toughening of legal protection for patent holders under the new law marks the latest in a series of recent improvements in intellectual property protection by Taiwan after pressure from the United States.
