EARTHQUAKE: THE LONG ROAD BACK : Drivers Beware : Roads

The following roads are closed:

1. Pacific Coast Highway, from Chautauqua Boulevard to Temescal Canyon because of landslide.

Primary alternate: Northbound: From Pacific Coast Highway, right on Chautauqua (north), then left (west) on Sunset Boulevard, left (south) on Temescal Canyon Road back to northbound Pacific Coast Highway. Southbound: Two lanes open.

2. Golden State Freeway (I-5) northbound, closed at Antelope Valley Freeway (California 14) because of bridge damage, but truck lane to Antelope Valley Freeway is open.

Primary alternate: Take northbound Antelope Valley Freeway to westbound San Fernando Road (California 126), left on Lyons Avenue to the Golden State Freeway.

3. The southbound Golden State Freeway (I-5) is closed between Lyons Avenue and the Foothill Freeway (I-210) because of bridge collapse.

One lane closed north of I-5 and Lyons Avenue at

California 126/Santa Clara Bridge.

Primary alternate: Exit at Lyons Avenue, east to San Fernando Road, south on Sierra Highway to San Fernando Road, south on Sepulveda Boulevard to Roxford Street to I-5.

4. Golden State Freeway (I-5) southbound, north of California 138, closed from Lyons Avenue to the Foothill Freeway (I-210) because of bridge collapse.

Primary alternate: Golden State (I-5) southbound to California 138 (eastbound) to the Antelope Valley Freeway (California 14) southbound to eastbound California 138 to the Barstow Freeway (I-15). Use westbound Santa Monica Freeway (I-10) or the Pomona Freeway (California 60) to Downtown L.A.

5. The eastbound Santa Monica Freeway (I-10) is closed from the San Diego Freeway (I-405) to Washington Boulevard.

Primary alternate: Take eastbound Pico Boulevard, then right on La Brea to eastbound Santa Monica Freeway.

6. The westbound Santa Monica Freeway is closed from Washington Boulevard to La Cienega Boulevard.

Primary alternate: Exit at Washington Boulevard, proceed to Fairfax Avenue, left at Venice Boulevard, right at Cadillac Avenue, left at La Cienega Boulevard to westbound Santa Monica.

7. The westbound Santa Monica Freeway connector to the southbound San Diego Freeway (I-405) is closed due to structural damage.

Primary alternate: Westbound traffic exit at Overland Avenue proceed straight onto National Boulevard to southbound San Diego Freeway (I-405) on-ramp.

8. Antelope Valley Freeway (California 14) northbound lanes 3 and 4 are closed between the Golden State Freeway (I-5) split and San Fernando Road. Primary alternate: Not required.

9. Antelope Valley Freeway (California 14) southbound closed at Placerita Canyon Road (before the Golden State Freeway interchange).

Primary alternate: Exit southbound Antelope Valley Freeway at Placerita Canyon Road, left (southbound) on Sierra Highway, which turns into San Fernando Road, proceed south to Sepulveda Boulevard, right on Sepulveda Boulevard to Roxford Road, proceed to southbound Golden State Freeway (I-5).

10. Hollywood Freeway (U.S. 101) connector northbound at California 170 has one of three lanes closed because of structural damage.

Primary alternate: Two lanes open on northbound Hollywood Freeway.

11. Eastbound Simi Valley Freeway (118) is closed from Tampa Avenue to the Foothill Freeway (I-210).

Primary alternate: Exit onto southbound De Soto Avenue or Tampa Avenue to Devonshire Street, left on Devonshire Street to southbound San Diego Freeway or right on Arleta Avenue, left on Van Nuys Boulevard to the Golden State Freeway or the Foothill Freeway.

12. Westbound Simi Valley Freeway (118) is closed from the Foothill Freeway (I-210) to Reseda Boulevard. All connectors from the Golden State and Foothill freeways to the Simi Valley Freeway (118) are also closed.

Primary alternate: From northbound San Diego Freeway, exit at Roscoe Boulevard or Devonshire Street, left to Tampa Avenue or De Soto Avenue, right to westbound Simi Valley Freeway.

13. All connectors from the westbound Foothill Freeway to the westbound Simi Valley Freeway (118) are closed. Duration is unknown. Foothill Freeway (I-210) through lanes are open.

Primary alternate: Westbound Foothill Freeway, exit on Foothill Boulevard, westbound to Van Nuys Boulevard to northbound Arleta Avenue, proceed westbound on Devonshire Street, northbound on Tampa Avenue or De Soto Avenue to the Simi Valley Freeway (118).

14. All connectors to the westbound Simi Valley Freeway (118) are closed due to structural damage. Duration is unknown. Foothill Freeway (I-210) through lanes are open for local traffic only.

Primary alternate: Use Osborne Street exit, go left on Foothill Boulevard, then left on Osborne Street to the northbound or southbound Golden State Freeway (I-5).

15. The northbound San Diego Freeway (I-405) to the northbound Golden State Freeway (I-5) is closed at Devonshire Street.

Primary alternate: Exit at Nordhoff Street, east on Nordhoff Street/Osborne Street to the Golden State Freeway (I-5) northbound.

16. The northbound San Diego Freeway connector to the westbound Simi Valley Freeway (118) is closed.

Primary alternate: Exit at Nordhoff Street, west to Tampa Avenue, then north to westbound Simi Valley Freeway (118).

17. The southbound San Diego Freeway (I-405) to the westbound Simi Valley Freeway (118) is closed from the Foothill Freeway (I-210) to Reseda Boulevard.

Primary alternate: Exit right on Rinaldi Street to Reseda Boulevard, proceed to westbound Simi Valley Freeway (118) on-ramp.

Mass Transit

MTA bus lines, including the Blue Line trains and Red Line subway, are in full service. There will be intermittent detours as workers clear earthquake damage on the following bus lines:

Line 90: Los Angeles, Sunland and Sylmar (via Pennsylvania Avenue)

Line 94: Los Angeles, San Fernando, Sylmar (via San Fernando Road)

Line 236: From Ventura Boulevard to Rinaldi Street and north/south on Woodley Avenue and Balboa Boulevard

Line 243: From Woodland Hills along Ventura Boulevard to Winnetka Avenue

Metrolink: Through the weekend, express buses are operating between Palmdale and the Santa Clarita station. On Monday, Metrolink will begin running trains to Palmdale and Lancaster from Los Angeles’ Union Station.
