OSLO — Norway will host talks this weekend between Israeli and Palestinian leaders along with U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher, the national news agency NTB reported Thursday.
Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Yasser Arafat and Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres are to be in Oslo to attend the funeral of Norwegian Foreign Minister Johan Jorgen Holst, who helped broker the historic Middle East peace accord.
NTB said the talks will probably start tonight and be led by Norway’s acting foreign minister, Bjoern Tore Godal.
Christopher plans to hold separate meetings with Peres and Arafat on Saturday before attending a memorial service for the Norwegian foreign minister.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amir Moussa said in Cairo that Arafat and Peres will hold talks in Norway on Saturday, trying to put back on track Israel’s delayed withdrawal from Gaza and Jericho.
