GIRLS’ SOCCER ROUNDUP : El Modena Stays Undefeated in League

Three players scored as El Modena, the fourth-ranked team in Orange County, beat Foothill, 3-1, in a Century League girls’ soccer game Thursday at Foothill.
Gina Mandel, Laurie Zemke, Nicole Terry scored and Stephanie Esparza and Kristi Hales added assists for El Modena (14-4, 5-0 in league).
El Modena, which has never won a league title in girls’ soccer, is in first place at the halfway point.
In another Century League game:
Villa Park 1, Canyon 1--Laura Flatauer scored in the first half for Canyon (10-4-2, 3-1-1). Meghan Reppe scored in the second half for host Villa Park (2-1-2 in league).
In the Empire League:
Cypress 3, El Dorado 2--Michelle Woiemberghe scored with 18 minutes left to break a 2-2 tie and give Cypress (7-6-1, 3-1-1) the victory. Annie Norum scored two first-half goals for the Centurions.
Esperanza 4, Katella 0--Jenny Parkison led seventh-ranked Esperanza (12-3-3, 4-0-1) with two second-half goals and an assist.
Los Alamitos 3, Loara 0--Eighth-ranked Los Alamitos (10-2-3, 2-0-3) got two goals from Liz Willemse.
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 3, Fullerton 0--Danielle Brofchak recorded her eighth shutout for Sunny Hills (11-3, 5-0). Kate Foster, Jill Landgraf and Jenny Cunningham scored for the Lancers.
La Habra 3, Troy 1--Shelly Salas, Amber Duarte and Ande Mariani scored host La Habra (11-4-1, 4-1).
In the Garden Grove League:
Garden Grove 2, Bolsa Grande 0--Jenni Barler and Polly Chittenden each scored for Garden Grove (4-10-1, 3-4-0). Stacy Nyhos had 14 saves for Bolsa Grande (1-6-1 in league.)
In the Olympic League:
Brethren Christian 5, La Mirada 1--Joy Pelletier scored four goals for host Brethren Christian (6-4-1, 4-2-1).
Whittier Christian 1, Connelly 0--Cherice Mousseau scored a second-half goal for Whittier Christian (4-7-1, 1-4-1).
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 6, Savanna 0--Amy Alexander and Erin Wright each scored two goals to lead visiting Brea-Olinda (6-6-3, 4-0-1).
Magnolia 4, Western 0--September Jones scored three goals, two in the second half, for visiting Magnolia (5-10, 2-3).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Estancia 2, Laguna Beach 1--Tracie Manz and Holly Ferguson scored second-half goals to lead Estancia (9-5-3, 3-1-1) in the come-from-behind victory.
Laguna Hills 6, Century 0--Ashley Olivieri had two goals to lead the Hawks (11-5-4, 2-2-1).
Trabuco Hills 2, Costa Mesa 2--Lisa Casey scored for Trabuco Hills (11-5-2, 3-0-2) and Jenny Avitia and Heather Brackett each scored for Costa Mesa (7-2-3, 2-1-2).
In the Sea View League:
Irvine 1, Corona del Mar 0--Kim Fischer scored a second-half goal for Irvine (9-6, 5-2). Goalie Laura Drumright had five saves for Corona del Mar (3-2-2 in league).
Newport Harbor 1, University 0--Jill Nelsen scored after a free kick 20 minutes into the first half to lead Newport Harbor (8-7-2, 4-2-1).
Santa Margarita 6, Tustin 0--Erica DeVitis, Erin McIntyre and Annie Luke each had one goal and one assist for host Santa Margarita (11-4-1, 7-0), ranked sixth in the county. Rheana Leedy had 17 saves for Tustin (0-6-1 in league).
Woodbridge 4, Saddleback 0--Jessica Allen scored twice to lead Woodbridge (6-8-3, 2-3-2) over host Saddleback.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 4, Rosary 0--Shellee Stucker, Christine Tyler, Julie Koudelka, and Shauna Itri scored for host Edison (17-2-2, 5-1), the second-ranked team in Orange County.
Ocean View 6, Westminster 0--Gina Tocco had two goals to lead Ocean View (12-6-2, 3-2-1) over winless Westminster. Ocean View is ranked fifth in Orange County.
