UCLA, the nation’s only unbeaten Division I team, ascended to the top ranking in the USA Today/CNN college basketball coaches’ poll released Sunday.
The Associated Press poll will be out today.
The Bruins (13-0) are the nation’s top-ranked team for the first time since January of 1983, when Larry Farmer was the coach.
Last week, UCLA was tied with Kansas for the No. 1 spot in the USA Today/CNN poll and ranked No. 2 behind Kansas in the AP poll. The Jayhawks (17-2) lost to Kansas State on Monday.
The Bruins defeated No. 9-ranked Arizona Thursday night and Arizona State Saturday. UCLA was a near-unanimous selection for the top spot in the USA Today/CNN poll, receiving 33 of 34 first-place votes and 849 points from the coaches’ panel. No. 2 Duke (13-1) got the other first-place voice.
Kansas dropped to No. 3, and Arizona to No. 11.
