Infinity Reportedly Cleared to Buy KRTH-FM: The Federal Communications Commission today will announce that Infinity Broadcasting Corp. can proceed with plans to buy the big Los Angeles radio station, the New York Times reported in today’s editions. The FCC’s 2-1 vote came despite the agency’s concern about purported indecent on-air remarks made by radio personality and Infinity employee Howard Stern, which also are the subject of at least two indecency complaints filed by the public. But the FCC’s decision also levies an additional $400,000 in fines on Infinity, which already has been fined $1.2 million by the commission in recent years because of Stern’s comments, the newspaper said. Infinity is fighting the fines in court.
