USAir Cuts Fares: The airline slashed fares in the eastern United States by as much as 70% for leisure travelers in response to competition from Continental and Southwest airlines. The cuts also apply to unrestricted fares popular with business travelers, who can expect savings of up to 50% on routes between 96 cities. American and Trans World Airlines said they would match the USAir fares on competing routes.
