South of the Border: Koll International, the Newport Beach developer, broke ground Tuesday on its 300-room Grand Hyatt hotel in Los Cabos, Mexico.
This is the first of four hotels slated to be built at the 1,800-acre Cabo del Sol resort, which is being developed by Koll and a joint venture partner. Newport Beach architects Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo are designing the hotel.
The Grand Hyatt will include 250 vacation condominiums, which go on sale in 30 days, said Joe Woodard, president of Koll International. The hotel is expected to be completed by September, 1995. Koll International is a division of the Koll Co. of Newport Beach, a commercial real estate investor and manager. Koll’s joint venture partner in Cabo del Sol is Empresas ICA Sociedad Controladora S.A. de C.V., the largest construction conglomerate in Mexico.
