A man who police said wanted money to buy crack cocaine was charged in Columbia, Mo., with beating to death three convenience store employees. Ernest Lee Johnson, 33, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, armed criminal action and first-degree robbery. Police said they found cash, receipts and checks taken from Casey’s General Store in Johnson’s nearby house. They said they also found bloody clothing and tennis shoes belonging to Johnson. The sneakers match prints the killer left in the blood on the store’s floor, police said.
