Corona del Mar Upset by Corona in First Round

NEWPORT BEACH — Corona del Mar, Orange County’s top-ranked boys’ soccer team, was knocked from the Division IV playoffs Friday when Corona pulled off a 2-1 upset in a first-round game at Corona del Mar High.
Sea View League champion Corona del Mar was seeded fourth in the division. Corona was the No. 3 team in the Mountain View League and an unseeded wild-card team.
But Corona (16-5-3), which defeated Arlington, 2-1, Wednesday to get its shot at the Sea Kings, got second-half goals by Joey Digiamarino and Louis Gonzales. Corona del Mar finished 19-3-4.
