NHL ROUNDUP : Capitals Come Back to Tie Sabres, 3-3

Three of the six games played in the NHL on Sunday ended in ties, with a fourth coming within 33 seconds of one.

The Washington Capitals, trailing 2-1 after two periods, salvaged a 3-3 tie with the Buffalo Sabres at Landover, Md., as Mike Ridley scored with 5:44 left in regulation, enabling the Capitals to extend their unbeaten streak to a season-high seven games.

New Jersey 1, Chicago 1--Rookie goaltender Martin Brodeur made 42 saves as the Devils rallied for a 1-1 tie at Chicago. Blackhawk goalie Ed Belfour stopped 33 shots and had a shutout until Corey Millen scored from 25 feet out at 4:58 of the final period.

Boston 2, Tampa Bay 2--Rookie Chris Gratton’s goal at 6:52 of the third period gave the Lightning a tie with the Bruins at St. Petersburg, Fla. Gratton’s goal came 59 seconds after Adam Oates gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead.

Detroit 4, Florida 3--Sergei Fedorov scored on a wraparound with 33 seconds left in overtime as the Red Wings beat the Panthers at Miami. Florida scored twice in the third period to erase a 3-1 deficit.

Calgary 5, Winnipeg 2--Theoren Fleury and Robert Reichel had two goals each as the Flames won at Calgary. The Jets are winless in their last 15 games and only 2-17-2 since Jan. 1.
