COSTA MESA — Police are searching for a man they believe got into an automated teller machine closet near Sears in South Coast Plaza just before 11 a.m. Thursday and escaped with $176,500 in cash.
The man, described as white, with a stocky build and wearing a tan shirt and brown pants, entered the back of the Mony Quick ATM closet without any signs of forced entry, according to Detective Jim Wilke. The ATM is operated by Wells Fargo Armored Inc., an armored car delivery company not connected with Wells Fargo Bank.
