Carolyn Wyeth, 84, landscape painter and member of the famous Wyeth family of artists. A self-described recluse who shunned fame, Miss Wyeth spent much of her life in the family house in Chadds Ford, Pa., built by her late father, illustrator N.C. Wyeth. She often modeled for portraits by her famous brother, Andrew Wyeth, including his “The Critic” in 1990. A sister, Henriette Wyeth Hurd, is also a well-known painter, and another sister, Ann Wyeth McCoy, is a composer. Miss Wyeth was a respected painter, concentrating on landscapes of the rural Chadds Ford area and coastal Maine. Her work was exhibited narrowly, primarily at the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford. Her death was announced Tuesday in Philadelphia.
