OUTLOOK
The biggest addition to Westminster’s lineup is Montgomery, a junior transfer from Fountain Valley. Montgomery had 29 runs batted during the regular season to help the Barons win the league championship. Montgomery will hit third in the lineup, pitch and play third base. He had five hits in Westminster’s first two games, a 7-6 loss to Long Beach Jordan and a 7-2 victory over Bolsa Grande. Matlock returns to play shortstop after hitting .325 in a half-season last year. He missed the second half last season after a pitched ball broke his his hand. Valles led off last season and hit .365. Rodriguez returns at catcher and will alternate hitting fourth or fifth with Glasby, who had 24 RBIs for the junior varsity team, which finished 17-6 last season. But Batesole will depend on defense to keep the Lions close. Said Batesole: “If everybody stays healthy and Sorensen, Montgomery, Torres and Berumen give us solid pitching, we could make a run at a playoff berth.”
