Bay Tours--A guided tour of the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve will be offered Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
The tour is free and lasts about 2 1/2 hours.
Those who would like to participate are asked to meet at Shellmaker Island off Backbay Drive in Newport Beach. For more information, call (714) 640-6746. Caspers Field Trip--South Coast Audubon, a chapter of the National Audubon Society, will hold a field trip Saturday to Ronald W. Caspers Regional Park.
The trip will begin at 8 a.m.
A lot of rain has produced an abundance of vegetation at the park, chapter officials said, creating favorable conditions for a variety of wildlife. Some unexpected bird species were recently spotted wintering in the park, and leaders hope for that to be true also during Saturday’s trip.
Park entrance is limited to those 18 and over. There’s a $2 entrance fee.
The park is at 33401 Ortega Highway, about 7 1/2 miles east of Interstate 5. Participants are asked to meet in the parking area left of the park’s gate.
