IT’S RELATIVE: You don’t have to be an Einstein to do the math on this one: Monday would have been Albert Einstein’s 115th birthday. Few would know that better than former San Diego Zoo researcher Arden Bercovitz. He’s made a mini-career out of portraying Einstein at area business conferences. Tuesday he’s at the Hyatt Regency Irvine, at an international conference for clients of Monitoring Automation Systems, a computer software company in Irvine. . . . Says a company spokesman: “It would be interesting to see what Einstein would think of today’s world.”
DUKE IT OUT: If you’ve never watched public TV’s “Washington Week in Review,” it’s the political talk show where the panelists do not shout and interrupt each other. Its low-key, longtime moderator, Paul Duke, retired from the show last week. But it’s still a big part of his life. Duke will host a “re-creation” of the show Monday at Le Meridien Hotel in Newport Beach, along with other regulars from the show. Nearly 200 guests who paid $100 each will attend. Proceeds go to the Laguna Museum of Art.
NOVEL ADVICE: Pat Teal of Fullerton proves that literary agents need not be based in Manhattan to be successful (E1). Teal, who sells more than 100 books a year, is always willing to take on new writers. . . . She says she will take a look at works-in-progress, but she won’t try selling a novel unless it’s completed. Says Teal: “Some people write the best first three chapters in the world and they never finish a book.”
CLOTHES CALL: Renzi Custom Gallery, the men’s custom clothier in Newport Beach, had so many callers seeking clothing tips that the owners set up a hot line, 800-WE-CLOTHE, to give out such help. . . . “Most people want to know what colors they can wear together, or how heavy a fabric for special occasions,” says spokesman Edward Goebel. But one surprise they hadn’t expected, he adds: “Most of the calls are from women, not men. They want to make sure their boyfriends or husbands are properly dressed.”
