Troubled Calexico Hospital Votes to Fire Administrator

SAN DIEGO — The board of directors of troubled Calexico Hospital in the Imperial Valley has voted to fire administrator Robert Trautman from his $96,000-a-year job.
The 4-1 vote came Monday night after months of feuding between Trautman and the Calexico Chronicle. The weekly newspaper’s publisher and managing editor, Lupe Acuna and Hildy Carrillo-Rivera, are hospital board members.
The 35-bed public hospital has been virtually empty in the last year and employees have gone weeks without being paid. Last week the Calexico City Council indicated that it would not loan any more money to the hospital until Trautman, who was hired in 1992, is replaced.
