Jack Morris, facing his former teammates for the first time this spring, pitched six scoreless innings in the Cleveland Indians’ 6-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Winter Haven, Fla. . . . John Burkett held Milwaukee to three hits in six innings, improving his spring record to 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA in the San Francisco Giants’ 5-3 victory over the Brewers at Chandler, Ariz. Burkett was chosen as the Giants’ opening day pitcher. . . . Reliever Rob Dibble of the Cincinnati Reds has tendinitis in his pitching shoulder and will cut back on his throwing and weightlifting until the arm gets better, the team said. . . . Former Angel Luis Sojo doubled and scored on third baseman Tommy Shields’ throwing error in the ninth inning Monday, leading the Seattle Mariners to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Peoria, Ariz. Sojo, who appears to have won the job as the Mariners’ utility infielder, opened the bottom of the ninth with a double against Chuck Crim. . . . Reliever Paul Assenmacher, who began last season with the Chicago Cubs before being traded to the New York Yankees, was traded to the Chicago White Sox for a minor league pitcher.
