PREP ROUNDUP : Esperanza Rallies to Beat Brentwood

Mike Allison had 28 kills to lead Esperanza, ranked ninth in Orange County, to a 10-15, 15-2, 16-14, 15-10 victory over Brentwood in a boys’ volleyball match Wednesday at Esperanza High.
Mark Alleman added 18 kills and Jason Klems had 16 for the Aztecs (3-2).
In other nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Orange 3, Western 1--Eric Temple had 26 kills, Alfredo Anguido had 13 and Eric Townsend had 52 assists for visiting Western (6-2).
San Clemente 3, Poway 0--Gabe Gardner had 10 kills for San Clemente (4-0).
Valencia 3, Villa Park 0--Joe Reynoza had 15 kills and nine blocks to lead host Valencia (4-2).
In the Garden Grove League:
Bolsa Grande 3, Santiago 2--Brian Dang had 11 kills to lead Bolsa Grande, 5-15, 15-4, 15-13, 14-16, 15-6. Sam Ching had 21 kills and Jeremy Dawd added 12 for Santiago (1-4, 0-2).
Los Amigos 3, La Quinta 0--Kiet Tran had 25 kills and Brian Laske added 17 to lead visiting Los Amigos (6-0, 2-0), which won 15-12, 15-13, 15-10. Trung Khuu had nine kills for La Quinta (3-3, 2-1).
In the Sunset League:
Fountain Valley 3, Westminster 0--Phil Domingo and Dave Arvesan each had eight kills for Fountain Valley (5-0, 3-0) in a 15-7, 15-6, 15-7 victory.
Huntington Beach 3, Edison 0--Mike Grave had 12 kills for the Oilers in the 15-5, 15-7, 15-11 victory.
In Empire League golf:
Esperanza 207, El Dorado 214--Chris Berry and Ryan Donovan each shot five-over-par 40 at Western Hills for Esperanza (8-0, 1-0). Ryan Chavez shot 38 for El Dorado.
In nonleague golf:
Brea-Olinda JV 220, Orange Lutheran 230--Rene Mendez shot par 33 for Orange Lutheran (1-6) at Riverview.
Capistrano Valley 216, Laguna Hills 225--Jeremy Medlin shot four-over 40 and Scott Rynders and Brett Thompson each shot 43 to lead Capistrano Valley (6-1) at Mission Viejo Country Club.
Huntington Beach 406, Trabuco Hills 418--Perry Dickey shot six-over 78 on the back nine of SeaCliff and the front nine of Coto de Caza for Huntington Beach (5-2).
Ocean View 213, Tustin 215--Jimmy Lee shot one over 37, at Tustin Ranch, for Tustin (1-7). Bobby Dion and Kurt Mascio each shot 39 for Ocean View (8-3).
Pacifica 213, Magnolia 241--Matt Sisneros shot even 35 for Pacifica at Dad Miller.
San Clemente 202, Aliso Niguel 245--Greg Johnson shot one-over 37 and Mike Zapel, Jason Gross and Jim Karl each shot 41 for San Clemente (5-1) at Pacific Country Club.
Santa Margarita 198, Brea-Olinda 212--Greg Pittenger and Ben Bost each shot par 36 at Tijeras Creek for Santa Margarita (7-0).
Western 202, Irvine 225--Tiger Woods shot two-under 34 and Joe Hallada shot 41 to lead Western (4-2) at Rancho San Joaquin.
In nonleague softball:
Aliso Niguel 15, Connelly 3 (5, mercy)--Kirsten Roy had two doubles and three runs batted in and Allison Batten had a single, triple and two RBIs to lead visiting Aliso Niguel’s 14-hit attack.
Costa Mesa 8-1, Santa Ana Valley 4-8--Tabby Cleveland and Lindsey Gallacher each had three hits in the first game for Costa Mesa (3-4). Gallacher also scored three runs in the game.
St. Margaret’s 9, San Diego Francis Parker 6 (8)--Monica Girard hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth for St. Margaret’s (4-1).
Villa Park 3, Mission Viejo 1--Kendra Wood had the game-winning single in the top of the seventh inning for Villa Park (6-3). Wood had three hits.
In Century League boys’ swimming:
Foothill 122, Orange 48--Morgan Lang won the 200 freestyle (2:01.21) and the 100 backstroke (1:04.08) for Foothill (2-2, 1-0).
Villa Park 108, El Modena 57--Sophomore Brian Pharris won the 100 butterfly (56.40) and 500 freestyle (5:20.0) to lead Villa Park (3-0, 1-0).
In the Empire League:
Esperanza 95, El Dorado 75--Christian Frid won the 200 freestyle in 1:54.8 and the 500 freestyle in 5:15.2 for El Dorado (0-4, 0-1).
Los Alamitos 85, Cypress 85--Eric Ploessel won the 200 freestyle (1:52.71) and 100 freestyle (50.64) and Tim Campbell won the 200 individual medley (2:06.93) and 100 butterfly (56.72) for Los Alamitos (5-0-1, 0-0-1).
In the Freeway League:
Buena Park 100, Sonora 86--Bryan Baum won the 500 freestyle (5:37.2) and 100 backstroke (1:03.6) and Gregg Petricevac won the 200 freestyle (2:02.5) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.8) to lead Buena Park (2-1, 1-0). Andy Wyse won the 50 freestyle (23.0) and 100 freestyle (51.8) for Sonora (0-1 in league).
La Habra 95, Troy 73--Brian Karol won the 200 freestyle (1:59.91) and 100 freestyle (53.80) to lead La Habra (2-2, 1-0).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Costa Mesa 112, Laguna Beach 46--James Comfort won the 50 freestyle in 23.66 and the 100 backstroke in 59.72 to lead Costa Mesa.
In the Sea View League:
Corona del Mar 98, Woodbridge 73--James Palda won the 100 butterfly in 55.78 and Thad Buzolich won the 50 freestyle in 22.82 for Corona del Mar (3-0-1, 2-0-1).
Andrew Lazenby won the 200 free in 1:49.69 and the 100 back in 55.59 for Woodbridge (2-1 in league).
Irvine 130, Saddleback 21--Erik Chen the 100 butterfly in 1:02.95 and the 100 backstroke in 1:01.89 for Irvine (2-2-1, 2-0-1). Bryce Turi won the 200 individual medley in 2:17.97 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.78 for the Vaqueros.
In Century League girls’ swimming:
Canyon 113, Santa Ana Valley 12--Irene Kiet won the 100 breaststroke (1:25.8) and Janet Downs the 200 freestyle (2:48.2) for Canyon (5-0, 1-0).
Foothill 106, Orange 68--Shannon Locks won the 50 freestyle (27.17) and the 100 breaststroke (1:17.12) for Foothill (1-3, 1-0).
Villa Park 100, El Modena 69--Kioko Tsujino won the 200 individual medley (2:16.16) and 100 butterfly (1:04.38) for El Modena (3-0, 1-0).
In the Empire League:
El Dorado 102, Esperanza 79--Grace Jo won the 200 freestyle (2:03.3) and the 100 freestyle (56.3) for El Dorado (3-1, 1-0).
