Kim Mortensen
SCHOOL: Thousand Oaks
SPORT: Track
YEAR: Sophomore
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Mortensen placed 10th in the Foot Locker West regional cross-country meet in December, and her success has continued this spring. She is the leading runner in the region in three events--the 800 (2 minutes 18.9 seconds), 1,600 (5:01.27) and 3,200 (10:56.32) meters.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Mortensen ran 5:01.27 to win the 1,600 in the Ventura County championships, slicing more than nine seconds off her previous best of 5:10.66. After running 2:18.9 in the 800 and 5:11.0 in the 1,600 in Monday’s Marmonte League preliminaries, Mortensen has a good chance to win the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 in Friday’s finals. “She has a good work ethic, but she is an absolutely fierce competitor,” Thousand Oaks distance coach Jack Farrell said. “I think that’s what sets her apart.”
